Distribution: Tanzania; in rocky soil; at 1370 to 1550 m altitude.

Description: Shrub, many stemmed, erect or subscandent, sparsely branching above, up to 3 m high; branches slender, 1 to 2 cm in diameter, glaucous green, sharply 4- (5-)angled, angles without teeth; spine-shields slender, united to a horny margin, spines in pairs, 1 to 1.5 cm apart, grey-black, slender, up to 8 mm long, prickles rudimentary; leaves rudimentary, soon deciduous; cymes solitary, subsessile, consisting of 3 cyathia, these dark crimson, 5 mm in diameter, involucres broadly funnel-shaped, glands rectangular, 2.5 mm across, contiguous. Cultivation: Keep dry during winter, minimum temperature 12 °C; propagation by seeds and cuttings.
